This August I am attempting to summit Mt. Rainier in Washington in support of South Central Gifted Scholar Fund (SCGSF).
Mount Rainier, at 14,410 feet, is the most extensively glaciated volcanic peak in the continental United States. The combination of high altitude, various route choices, and Northwest weather make this a truly unique experience. The guides of Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. will help me meet this incredible challenge. SCGSF mission is to "assist highly motivated high school students from South Central Los Angeles to achieve academic success in college...the Fund is a volunteer group of successful professionals who financially assist and partner with students who are trying to transform their lives through higher education....who will serve as a resource to future students from South Central Los Angeles." I have personally been involved as a mentor for 2 years, to a student who just graduated from Georgetown, my graduate school alma mater. It has been such a rewarding experience to provide guidance, advice, inspiration, motivation, and most of all develop this friendship and watch him grow over these past couple of years. I have been training for this climb for over 6 months and have always been myself inspired by the beauty, mysticism and challenge of Mt. Rainier. I hope that you will support such a wonderful organization South Central Gifted Scholar Fund and support my efforts to climb to SUMMIT Mt. Rainier! Thank you for your consideration. Warmly, Rachel |
